But, of course, these days as traditional publishers do less and less marketing, just about all authors who want to sell their books have to focus more on marketing. Social media has made some very successful careers. I wish "just writing " were enough. But not every writer has a Random House. And as I'm just embarking on this whole business of publishing I was very interested in Charlotte's take on building a platform. I stopped blogging last year so I could write because even writing a blog post took up space - mentally and physically, which I needed to put into my writing. And my manuscript is unapologetically commercial! But it still required thoughtful, considered quiet time, so the blog went. And now I have an agent waiting for the first 2 chapters of book 2 with a synopsis, so thoughts I did have of rejuvenating the blog are once more put aside. Instead, I'm writing a novella in your comment box! Thanks for the post, Allison & Charlotte.Jennifer Smarthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02329007704786791407noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1495198733430494988.post-59134831571494667672013-03-01T18:51:03.775+11:002013-03-01T18:51:03.775+11:00I was thinking of starting up a literary fiction c...I was thinking of starting up a literary fiction career, mostly to start up a rejection slip collection, though. Do you still get rejection slips? I read lots of literary fiction but agree that the boundaries aren't always clear. I blog as an alternative to getting on with my novel because I'm too exhausted by my 3 small children to really focus on it at the moment. It's not a way of promoting my writing but rather a different way of expressing myself. xKMamamakarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01016701280002092572noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1495198733430494988.post-72933488620814210182013-03-01T15:30:10.371+11:002013-03-01T15:30:10.371+11:00I hear you!I hear you!allison taithttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00762529258195877400noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1495198733430494988.post-22585054654247662802013-03-01T14:42:59.975+11:002013-03-01T14:42:59.975+11:00Oh, I am such a Charlotte Wood admirer!
