All about meme

The Tipping Point is an actual, real place. I know this because I am there. On the pointy end of it. It’s been nearly six months since I started this blog (where has the time gone? Oh, that’s right, sucked into Blog Land) and in that time I’ve received a couple of Awards and some ‘tags’ or memes – both of which kind of confused me.

So I did what I always do when confused, which was to ignore the situation in the hopes that no-one would notice. I figured I’d just keep on doing my thing on my blog, sending it out into The Great Wherever (TGW) and that would be that.

But the thing with blogging – the great thing about blogging – is that it’s not just about sending your thoughts into TGW because – and this comes as a surprise to a newbie – TGW writes back! What with all the popping into other people’s blogs that you do, and all the popping into yours that others do, you become, well, neighbours. And neighbours interact. Just like in the good old days when one, gasp, actually spoke to the people next door, so it is with blogs.

So I can’t be confused and ignoring people any more. They’ll think I’m snobby and stop asking me to barbecues. Victoria at Hibiscus Bloem asked me very politely to answer some questions, so I am.

What’s your favourite season?

Autumn. The colours suit me, the temperature suits me. The skies are brilliant blue, the sun shines and there are leaves to kick around. What’s not to love?

Best holiday you’ve ever had?

I spent two years travelling overseas in my twenties. It wasn’t all fun and games as I had a job based in London but… actually, no, it was all fun and games. But, you know, as far as I’m concerned there’s no such thing as a bad holiday.

Would you ever consider any form of cosmetic surgery?

I used to joke that I’d get a boob job and tummy tuck when I turned 40, but I don’t know a single mum who’s never had that thought. In reality, no.

Do you have a favourite recipe you’d like to share?

Not really. I keep getting those emails asking me to participate in recipe exchanges and, I confess, I keep breaking the chain (I know, my future is looking shaky right now). I’m the most disorganised recipe junkie the world has ever known. I have favourite recipes, it’s true – but I can never find them when I want them.

If you won a million dollars, what would you do?

Jump around, pay the mortgage, buy the 1970s train wreck of a house at the beach that I saw on the weekend.

So that’s that. Do you feel you know me better now? Will you lend me a cup of sugar – or even the recipe when I can’t find it?

To other business:

In response to the Awesome Blogger Award from the lovely Annie at Living Life As Me and The Versatile Blogger Award from Tia at T.L Brink, I’m going to combine both – without the buttons because I have an aversion to HTML – and just provide a list of blogs that I love and never miss. Most of which are on my blog roll already, but, you know, just in case you don’t like to leave via the side door when you visit here, I'll put them front and centre.

Deer Baby – she writes like a dream and is called Alison.

My Fluffy Bunnies – beautiful writing, even manages haikus every Friday.

MaxabellaLoves – Sister B in all her awe-inspiring glory.

And Then There Were Four – Sister C is funny, pragmatic and wonderful.

Not Drowning, Mothering – makes me snort coffee out my nose.

Blonde Mom Blog – All-American girl all grown up.

Mayhem & Moxie – two friends with the same sassy sense of humour.

Pink Patent Mary Janes – whimsical updates several times a day.

Fat Mum Slim – just so damn pretty and inspirational.

Ah, The Possibilities – The Pioneer Woman follows her on Twitter. Enough said.

In My House – more than just pretty pictures, Catherine knows her interiors.

Should any of these people care to keep the Question Chain Letter going (and, don’t worry, there will be no threats of misadventure if you don’t), these are my five questions:

Did you have a Birth Plan? How did that work out for you?

Did you, at any stage, attempt Gina Ford’s Contented Baby regimen?

What is your favourite form of exercise?

What was the best first date you ever went on?

Dark, Milk, or White Chocolate?

Okay, that's meme done.

  1. Oh I love it...thanks! I have a draft post about having a mid-life blog crisis. This will help provide fodder for writing. ;)

  2. Oh - you're doing memes? GREAT! Will be sure to add you to ALL the ones I do. (hee hee)

And, um, BTW - didn't see my blog mentioned above there. Ahem. Just sayin'. And to think I had invited you to be my bridesmaid. Tsk, tsk. ;)

Ok, now in answer to your questions...

Did you have a Birth Plan? How did that work out for you? NO. Don't believe in them. I figured, I'd never done it before, so how could I 'plan' for it? I knew I'd only disappoint myself if I didn't stick to it. Besides, I'm too lazy to write one anyway.

Did you, at any stage, attempt Gina Ford’s Contented Baby regimen? Nup. Once again...too lazy to read it. By the 2nd & 3rd I was getting it. Kind of.

What is your favourite form of exercise? Walking. Preferably alone (ie sans children) and with my iPod on. Bliss.

What was the best first date you ever went on? Oh, that would be the time this guy took me to a food court in Perth for dinner, and then almost fainted when I ordered the $8.90 Chinese dinner.....NOT.

Dark, Milk, or White Chocolate? Hmmmm...def not white. LOVE Cadbury milk choc, but also love dark chocolate too. Chocolate. That's my answer right there.

    xx

  3. @Jodie at Mummy Mayhem - I hereby announce this is my last ever meme. Look what a balls-up I've made and it's only three comments in. How could I forget the bride??? Love the date story!

@Katrina - Welcome to RCB Anonymous. Stand up and be proud.

  4. What's a Birth Plan? I though you just wanted it to come out...

  5. Yay - thanks for not being snobby and joining in! I was hopeful, but you never know if you'll get response. I don't have a fav recipe either and tear all kinds of things from magazines and stuff them in folder that gathers dust and is never opened!

  6. Ha!It's hard being loved! I think I constantly disappoint by breaking the chain. Anyway, you handled that well! xx

  7. Oh, I'm just like you - far too confused and chain-breaking for anyone's liking. Thank you for the mention, what a very sweet way to start my day x

  8. Now I have seen everything! The Fibro chick has done a meme!!!

  9. @MultipleMum - Oh, you know me, just full of surprises.

  10. I don't have a blog (it's coming soon with my kids clothing range - shameless plug, sorry) but when I do I hope you'll pop over for a tequila shot or two :)

Also, I'm insanely jealous you actually live in a real life pink fibro - I would paint mine tomorrow but sadly I think the locals would revolt.

And lastly, please tell me you didn't do Gina Ford. There are people in this world who make my blood boil, she literally makes my head explode... But then again, I'm a tree-hugging mama who makes gluten-free playdough with essential oils so what the hell would I know :)

  11. @LisaNReynolds - Sorry, I had to give up tequila in my early 20s after, um, one shot too many. But I love a good kids clothing range, so I'll be there for sure. And no, there was no Gina Ford in my life. I will never wake a sleeping baby. Never ever.

  12. Yes, I do feel I know you better, neighbour! I've never been good at getting to know my neighbours, I have high fences. But the blogoshpere is such a lovely neighbourhood.
I'll let you know when I'm having a barbie! ;)

  13. Love your answers! But can you please tell me what a fibro IS? MOLLY

  14. You're memeing now? Really?

I can never resist talking about myself...

Did you have a Birth Plan? How did that work out for you?
Yes, for my first baby. I even made a birthing tape with all my favourite easy-listening music on it, ready for the big day. Now, if only that tape had contained 40 hours of hard core heavy metal, I might have been closer to soundtracking the actual event.

Did you, at any stage, attempt Gina Ford’s Contented Baby regimen?
You know all too well that I did. I went insane. INSANE. Only a strict dose of attachment parenting could cure me.

What is your favourite form of exercise?
    I run. It's what I do. At least 2 times a year.

What was the best first date you ever went on?
My penchant for picking up strangers in bars meant I never actually had an actual first date.

    Dark, Milk, or White Chocolate?
    Milk. Whittakers. Bitter and yum.

  15. Ive just found you--and I love your blog! It has a nice feel to it. And Im enjoying your writing so Im a new follower, or a new neighbour, however you'd like to look at it--and I have plenty of sugar if you need any. ;)

  16. I'll let you into a secret. I hate memes. I wrote a post on our British Mummy Bloggers network about how I was sorry to be a spoilsport but I just didn't want to do them. However, I caved. For a special someone. Someone told me to put a big fat blog badge on my blog saying Meme free Zone but I thought that was a bit mean.

    But I'll do yours.

Birth plan - wrote one but out the window as soon as pre-eclampsia reared its head

Gina Ford - thrown out of the window in a hissy fit.

What is this exercise you speak of?

Best first date? Probably to see Airport 77 with LH - my left half hockey man

Chocolate - milk. I pretend to like all these exotic flavours like lavender and geranium, chilli and lime, but really I'm happy with a cheap bar of chocolate. White chocolate is too sickly for me, like the Milky Bar Kid. I buy it for the kids - that way I'm less inclined to steal it first.

  17. Always good to re-visit these about me memes because you do learn about the people who do the writing. This time I'm here from Blog Gems :)

  18. Milk chocolate!! Now that you have mentioned chocolate everything else is gone out of my mind lol. Thanks for joining in Blog Gems. Jen
