Empty rooms

Empty rooms look smaller. Empty rooms look darker. Empty rooms have no heartbeat, no energy.

The middle of the Fibro is empty. Bathroom and laundry stripped of their walls, rugged concrete exposed underfoot. Wires wave from dark corners. Creatures with many legs scuttle in the shadows.

It's hard to imagine that in a few short weeks we will be back in there. It will be white and clean and bright.

Now it is just empty.

  2. As a little girl visiting my dad's building sites, I found it quite creepy seeing 'the guts' of houses. Now I find it comforting: knowing the structure underneath is strong and solid gives me comfort.

  3. Exciting! I hope your bathroom takes less time to redo than Mum and Dad's did!!!! x

  4. I find it hard how quickly a 'home' can become just the bones of stripping walls and grubby floors. It freaks me out a little bit. I can't really do those 'before' and 'after' mag articles... am I being too weird?

    Anyway, all will be well.

  6. I agree, I get a little creeped out by empty rooms, empty houses etc... But it will be SO exciting to have a brand spanking new living space to enjoy. That has to be worth the downside of renovating xo

  7. yeah....empty rooms w/ no personal belongs can feel cold and stale. I like your heartbeat connection.

  8. I find renovating quite an emotional thing & haven't understood why until now - it's the emptiness. There's something amazing though about starting over with just a skeleton and making choices for the room(s) to be a reflection of you and yours. Beautiful post!

  13. When the new walls are up , you will know exactly what is under them. That is satisfying. No surprises!

  14. I'm of the open possibilities mindset. The empty space, just waiting for new ideas and thoughts to be put into them. Change is good.

  15. Love the imagery! Except for the scuttly things ;)

Sure you'll be thrilled when it's all finished and you can give it a heartbeat again!

  17. Is Kevin doing the grand design for you?

  18. I do feel your pain. And sizes also seem wrong when there is nothing in there. You can't tell what will fit in there either. Turns out my kitchen is far bigger than I imagined. Not a bad thing.

But so glad you can move out during the renovations! We lived in it. Nighmare. Mind you, with a bathroom could be tricky!

All the best and hope you're back into a bigger and brighter place. Will you post photos??? Hope so!
