Me + Billy Idol = same/same

Of all the headlines on this blog, today's may be the weirdest. The reason for it is even stranger. I was sitting here contemplating how to begin a post about my new website. One of those trumpets blaring, fanfare faring kind of posts. And all I could think of was that Billy Idol song 'Dancing With Myself'.

"With the record collection
And the mirror's reflection
I'm dancing with myself"

I found creating a website a similar kind of experience. On a long list of writing exercises I've attempted and hated over the years, writing about myself in the third person rates right up there with ... well, let's just say it tops my list of least favourites. Even above the Philosophy 101 essays about the chair.

But it is done. And it looks beautiful, thanks to the very clever Katrina from The Media Maid, and a dear friend who created the header images there (and here) for me.

So now I have an 'official' website to go with my official Facebook page. Any minute now I'll come up with an 'official' use for both. In the meantime, I'll just be hanging out here...

Let me know what you think of my... dancing.

    1. Thanks Mel! Back is on the mend, still dodgy but I'm placing a lot of faith in Friday's osteo appointment. Hoping to satisfy...

  2. I love it! I love the way all the info is combined in a succinct but appealing manner. The colours and images are inviting and not all stuffy and super formal. But they aren’t cheesy and still look professional. It is warm. Which is the impression I get from you and your writing. Warmth.

    1. Thanks Bri! I love the colours ... I am going to have to update that photo soon though. I'm going to be one of those authors still working the 20 year old publicity shot if I'm not careful...

  3. Billy Idol was such a bad boy what with the sneer and the leather and the hair.

LOVE your new website - it's very you.

    1. Thanks AP! I saw him perform on the tele recently... let's just say that the sneer hasn't aged well. Hoping we don't have that in common...

  4. I love your new site, looks gorgeous, I am loving less the fact that you've just reinserted Billy Idol in my head; I had one of his CDs in my car stereo for far too long last month and had only just got White Wedding off eternal repeat in my brain.

  5. I had to investigate when I saw Katrina's post on Facebook so here I am and here I am to stay!!!
Your web page is just beautiful she is indeed a clever girl. I also know exactly how sometimes the image doesn't go with the post but you just have to!!!!!
As a fibro is probably in my future I am hoping to find lots of inspiring things here as I travel back through your past. Jules

  6. Oh Allison it looks terrific! I meant to have a look earlier when I saw your link on FB, but became sidetracked (as I so often seem to be!) But the website is very cool and very easy to navigate. I especially like that last line on your 'About' page, a novel next year... that is just awesome!
And now you have firmly planted Dancing With Myself in my head, until at least bedtime. I do love that song... and I do love Billy Idol. Such a throwback to my 80's roots xo
