The view from my office

Last time I wrote a post about where I write, I was still living in the Fibro. I had a cosy little office, looking out over the back deck and the neighbour's fence. Now that I'm living in the Old Girl, this is the view from my office.

Do I feel lucky?

Yes, I do.

My desk is still a tip, with 1000-or-so items in the To Be Filed folder, but I can look out the french doors on a warm Autumn day and forget about it all.

Do I daydream?

Yes, I do.

Where do you write?

  1. I've been thinking quite a bit about Virginia Woolf's A Room Of One's Own. I don't have a place specifically dedicated to writing and I find that Woolf is right--I need a place of my own. I figure if the though arises on a daily basis it should probably be addressed. But to answer your question, I do most of my writing in the living room when my little guy naps.

    1. I wrote my first novels (including some never-to-be-seen romance manuscripts) in a corner of our kitchen, while the boys napped, so I hear you! Having a space is a good thing - but the writing habit you're creating by doing it the way you are will always stand you in good stead!

  2. Oh, I do love that. I've taken to taking the laptop outside as a way to break up the desk time!

    1. That's a great idea Nikki! I can't actually do it though because I go out there and then I"m lost. Weeding. Wondering. Watching the birds. I need the distance.

    2. Lovely! My favourite place to write is sitting in bed! Failing that the kitchen table. I have a desk in our bedroom, but it is so messy that I never use it! One day I'd like a room of my own, or a little studio in the garden. Wouldn't that be nice? xK

  3. I have my very own studio/office! Very lucky I know, but it's taken 11 years of marriage to get in to our own home and have the space... It's not quite sorted out properly yet, however I'm enjoying that I can come and shut myself away at the other end of the house and do my stuff!

  4. That view from your Old Girl office is pure magic. It is so beautiful I think I'd be tempted to take a regular 'turn in the garden' just to reinvigorate the spirit! I can't sit in the one spot for too long so I mix up my work areas, moving from cluttered, chaotic desk, to the back yard where I sit in the gazebo(pretentious sounding I know!)with full view of the chooks and wilting herb garden. I try to remain focused on my laptop but it's not always easy :)

  5. I write all over the place - right now at work waiting for my 3 pm meeting to start. I have a window in my office, it looks straight on to the brick wall of the building next to me. Not such a fine view.

  6. Allison, what a beautiful view. I'd feel inspired by that I think. I don't have a specific writing place, our current home is too small. I dream of one day having my own writing corner/ small office. Time will tell.

  7. That looks amazing!
Although we have a home office in the house, I've set up my little workspace in the main part of the house so that I can watch my kids and (attempt to) write at the same time. My computer shares the desk with my electric keyboard and other trinkets and special things.
I do enjoy opening up the bifold doors, feeling the breeze and looking out at the water while the kids are playing outside though!

  8. Oooh so nice. As soon as outside my window seat in my office is landscaped I will share my writing space. Right now the barren ground and concrete isn't so attractive!

  9. I mostly write in bed, on my laptop. Sometimes I go to bed in the middle of the day just to get some words out.

  10. Lucky! Someday I aspire to be out of the cubicle and in the grass as well.
