Have you done your Christmas shopping?

The year is truly galloping along now. We've reached that point where trying to organise a date to meet with friends becomes a comedy of checking and cross-referencing and text messages back and forth ... until finally you all agree that mid-January looks great.

My 'before Christmas' craziness has begun, with editors and corporate clients all needing their work in the door on Christmas Eve. Why, I'm not sure. It's not like Santa's elves will be popping in over the break to actually do anything with the copy filed. But I'm just as happy to have everything tied up by then, so I smile and nod and work late into the night.

In the meantime, the Christmas shopping is not done. Actually, not even thought about. And I can feel the underlying stress that comes with that. There is nothing I hate more than last-minute Christmas shopping. Elbowing your way through crowds with those crazy elevator-music carols hammering in your brain.

Usually, I have most of the shopping well and truly wrapped up by now. (I know it's only November. The carols start in October, you know!) But this year we were moving house during the big sales and I got caught short.

Unfortunately, the closer it gets to Christmas, the less I feel like stirring myself to shop.

So for now I'll concentrate on texting my friends and meeting my deadlines. Surely Santa will take care of the shopping?

Have you done your Christmas shopping? Or, in fact, anything Christmassy at all?

  1. Hello Allison, as the years go by I am getting better at planning. All the Scottish ones - candles - went with my hubby when he had to whizz over last week. What a RELIEF. Cake done, pudding ready to make soon. My wee kids finish school on December 4th (WTF!!) ... late Nov and Dec have often seen me quite hysterical so hoping to be less so this year.

BUT haven't started at all for my own family here... umm.....

  2. Community Service Announcement - Buy small, buy handmade, buy online! Then you don't have to put up with crummy shopping mall Christmas carols. Yep, its my hope that everyone is going to shop online this year... and that they haven't done so already! I am only a little bit biased (and panicky).

  3. Yep, Done! I shop online and love it!
And because I will be heavily pregnant at Christmas time my brother and sis-in-law are organising lunch and bringing it to my house....BLESS THEM!!

  4. I've already bought all the 'good present ideas' I've had. It's great because it means that some of people can be ticked off my list BUT it does mean all the hard one, the ones where I have no idea what to get, are left. Bit depressing!

  5. I usually start really early and have it done by now with the exception of the odd pressie. This year I have only the odd pressie and don't even know what to get my kiddies. They don't even know what they want....

  6. Yeah, all done. I usually load up in the July sales then pick up the layby Christmas Eve on the way to the country. I've got two presents to go (last minute Kris Kringle draws) but apart from that, sorted! Good luck with your shopping. Or should I send that message to Santa? x

  7. Well on my way. On-line hopping is a must! I try to use 'made-it' and 'etsy' or small on-line companies and get some lovely homemade goodness and avoid shopping with the big brands/companies where possible! Good luck xx

  8. We're throwing a Christmas party for our employees and their kids this year, so in addition to buying for my kids, grandkids, husband etc, I've just had to buy presents for a bunch of kids I don't know.
And it's AWESOME. I just love Christmas, so even when I'm stressed it's not REAL stress.
I've made a Zombie Apocalypse Survival Kit for my boys, and have had stuff dribbling in from on-line orders for a couple of weeks now.
I'm even singing carols as I wrap!

  9. Got all the pressies. Not wrapped yet though - stuffed in odd hiding places that I will probably forget 2 days before Chistmas when I am finally wrapping!

  10. I used to get cracking with Christmas laybys right after Easter, but no more. Now the kids and grandkids are grown, there's really nothing left that I can buy them. so I leave it all until December, then buy gift cards which they all use in the post Christmas sales. All I need is two gifts to send to far flung siblings and I've bought one already.

  11. I'm half way there, or thereabouts. I do the same thing every year. Vow to be organised, get half way there and then finish the rest Christmas Eve. Works for me!
