I have a confession.
I can’t bear suspense. Not to any degree whatsoever.
But that’s not the worst of it.
I regularly read the last page of a book first.
I bring this to your attention because today I came upon Mr6 doing exactly the same thing. It’s genetic.
Anyone else out there share the same affliction?

Me
ReplyDeleteI even do it in secret so that lovely husband doesn't know.
And TV shows - Google spoilers are my friend.
And I sometimes read blog comments THEN go back and read the post.
So odd.
oh yeah, I do that all the time
ReplyDeleteOh yes. Especially now that I don't have time to read a whole book. I'll read the blurb, then the first 3 pages... and then skip to the end.
ReplyDeleteI then feel I have the gist, and don't bother/need to read the rest.
Sad. So sad. x
It's definitely genetic!
ReplyDeleteNoooooooooo! I spend the day of the Oscars in a media blackout - stopping my fingers and my ears with a LA LA LA if ever news of who's won is blurted at me. I won't google any info about any shows in case spoilers are posted either.
ReplyDeleteBut I do tend to read the last 30 pages of a book really, really quickly and I have to go back and re-read them after I've come to the conclusion.
But I'm a smarty pants who likes to guess the end result. If I'd read the last page or googled the spoiler I couldn't smugly say, "Yep, I knew it..."
I am the opposite. I can not bare to know what happens in a good book. However when it comes to TV shows I'm with Lucy, I get online to find out who dies so I can deal with the 'truma' of it all before it happens - am I weird!!!! lol
ReplyDeleteNOOOOOOOOOO how can you do that??? That would be like sneaking into your parents room the week before Christmas while they are at work and unwrapping your presents and having a peek - totally totally wrong!!!!! Joli
ReplyDeleteThank goodness I'm not alone!
ReplyDeleteI've read far too many books where I've hated the ending, at least by reading the last page first I know whether to invest time reading the rest of the book - I hate to be disappointed!
I do but I don't! I want to so badly when I start a new book and I even go to the back page and flirt with the prospect. I might read a word or two and that is it!
ReplyDeleteI do it all the time. I know it's a really good book if I still want to read it.
ReplyDeleteI also read very fast - have been known to gobble a whole book standing up in Borders, then waddle out the door with literary indigestion. However if I like a book very much, I'll go back to the beginning and read it at talking speed, savouring the words...
I ALWAYS used to read magazines from the back forward (Before Blogs).
Me me me me me! I'm totally an instant gratification type of girl. Can't stand suspense. Mr Moi hates it. HATES IT!
ReplyDeleteCan't say that I do. I love having to wait until the end to find out if my theory on the plot is right. Funny though!
ReplyDeleteI do it to... well sometimes. When I can't wait to see what happens I sometimes take a little peek but don't tell. I think I do it more with tv shows esp. when I look up wikipedia and just get carried away.
ReplyDeleteNoooooo!!!! That's just a travesty. It makes me sad, really it does....
ReplyDeleteSorry can't sympathise with this one, I can't think of anything worse than knowing the ending before it happens! That says I hate suspenseful movies, I just want them to get things going already before I jump out my skin!
ReplyDeletewww.wastyle.blogspot.com
oh my gosh, yes i do this too. Thought I was the only one - my mum could never believe that i could "spoil" the story in this way...Now I know it is a much more common addiction!
ReplyDeleteI've been known to sneak a peak...LOL
ReplyDeleteI don't do it regularly, only when I get really attached to a character and want to know if they're going to be ok. Lame I know.
ReplyDeleteNo! Never! Although my son does. What does that say?
ReplyDeleteI often skim read though. Not quite as fast as Tricia above but pretty fast. And I do read spoilers for movies. But not for Mad Men, West Wing etc. I'm actively avoiding people win the US in case they leak Mad Men plots.
I never do that! But I know plenty of people who do. And I am also discovering so many things in my daughter that are just exactly me too.
ReplyDeleteI can't tell you how happy I am that I'm not alone with this. :-)
ReplyDeleteAlas, Yes!
