I write like Stephen King. Well, according to the website I Write Like, I write like Stephen King. I read about the site in today's Sunday Life magazine and, of course, could not wait a moment to give it a try. All you have to do is to paste in few paragraphs of your own text and, voila, it's analysed and compared.
Stephen King. Allison Tait. We have exactly the same number of letters in our name. Fate.
As far as I can see, that's about it. He writes world-famous, best-selling contemporary horror, suspense, fantasy, sci-fi fiction. I write non-famous, non-selling women's contemporary fiction, features articles, a little romance, a lot of blogging. But apparently we share something that only I Write Like can see.
I write like Stephen King. Who do you write like? Check it out and then come back and share.

Enid Blyton!
ReplyDeleteThat is hysterical Mrs Woog! I write like Chuck Palahniuk. I did't even know who he was so I googled and apparently he wrote Fight Club so I hope it comes with Brad Pitt perks? x
ReplyDeleteAhh, I did this over a year ago and I got Chuck Palahniuk too. He's actually pretty awesome, MM. Don't be perturbed. He's more of a cult writer.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun! It amazes me what some nerds get up to, writing little algorithms and dissecting the world one line of code at a time.
Classic, JK Rowling. Posted in a poem I had written. Cant wait to see what she will do next!

Ooh i'd love to write like Enid!
Thanks for the link, we're not getting papers / mags here anymore (by choice) they're always late so have switched to online news.
"non-famous, non-selling women's contemporary fiction"
ReplyDeleteOMG - that gave me a laugh.
x
how on earth my post to husband's about how to get laid more often by your wife indicates that I write like Isaac Asamov is beyond me. If i was Isaac Asamov and I was alive, I would be very upset right now.
ReplyDeleteArthur C Clarke, I know my post about my shitty kitchen reads a little like a scary Sci Fi but it's true, honest!!
ReplyDeleteLast year I wrote like Kurt Vonnegut. I just tried it with some of my latest writing and I've morphed into Vladimir Nabokov. Hmm. Curious.
ReplyDeleteAm jealous of Mrs Woog getting Enid Blyton :-)
I write like Margaret Atwood. Last year I wrote like Stephenie Meyer.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Chuck Palahniuk is awesome. I loved his book Diary.
I write like Stephenie Meyer.
ReplyDeleteYet - I don't read her.
Thinking she probably doesn't read me either.
What is the secret to Enid, Mrs Woog?
:-)
James Joyce!
ReplyDeleteHmm... I write like Stephen King as well. Not sure that I like the comparison!! Hehe...
ReplyDeleteIt says I write like Stephen King too, and if that's true, I want to cry. I can't stand the way he writes. He's a great story teller, but to me, his writing is over rated. He gives detailed flashbacks early on in books about characters I could care less about, and he doesn't end his stories. I guess his sentence structure is okay, and if that's what they're looking at, I shouldn't be insulted, but he was not the writer I hoped for. Sorry.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the interesting link and for stopping by my blog. I'll look for your crowning moment.

How hilarious! I write like a person I've never heard of and whose gender I can't ascertain. Cory Doctorow. E.L. Doctorow would be something to cheer about but, as per Wikipedia this guy is a Canadian blogger. Go figure!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun site! An entry from a manuscript deemed me Chuck Palahniuk...seems like we have a lot of Chucks here.
ReplyDeleteAn entry from a blog got me Margaret Mitchell. The dear lady would roll over in her grave.
Thanks for the chuckle. I will pass this site on to other writers.
It says I write like Dan Brown.
ReplyDeleteI'm getting this opportunity to ask for your permission to blog about this too. I'll put the fibro as my source.
Thanks. =)
I think the comments are the best part of this post! I'll look forward to reading your @kris10na!
ReplyDeleteAthur C. Clarke apparently. I don't get it but I'm taking it. I may even start adding it to my submissions!
ReplyDeleteCory Doctorow. I want to write like Elizabeth Berg and Heather Lende. Hmm. I guess I should start reading Cory Doctorow. But I don't really like science fiction. And I don't write science fiction, either. Hmm.
ReplyDeleteHmmm, Raymond Chandler! I'm OK with that... I think! :)
ReplyDeleteI kept on posting blog snippets until I got a writer I had heard of. First up, Chuck Whatsisname, the Fight Club bloke. The HP Lovecraft, another 'who?' from me.
ReplyDeleteFinally, someone I know, admire and love. Margaret Atwood! Maybe my shopping lists might be somewhat in her style, but as for my blog, I think I write... like... me!
I put in a blog post, and it told me I write like Stephanie Meyer. I freaked out and was ready to give up writing forever, but double checked with some of my fiction. It then came up with J.D. Salinger. How's that for two opposite ends of the spectrum? I'm feeling much more credible (and kind of smug) now. ;)
ReplyDeleteI got Nabokov too! Terribly excited. I would have been happy with Stephen King though... And Palahniuk. Thanks for the heads up, I loved it :)
ReplyDeleteCory Doctorow and James Joyce... neither of whom wrote factual stuff. What nonsense! But funny.
ReplyDeleteHave you read Stephen King's terrific book 'On Writing." I'd love to write like that.
Anne Rice.
ReplyDeleteWell, that's interesting. I put in a sample about a Princess named Ruby talking to her soft toy!
Maybe they mistook tying the fairy blanket round the toy's neck for biting his neck!
I am another write like Stephen King! I really do what to read his book on writing as I keep hearing good things about it. It will be the first book of his I have actually read.
ReplyDeleteMichelle
p.s. just caught up on the weekend rewind news and I am very very sad. You did the most sublime job. xx
Cool! David Foster Wallace.
ReplyDeleteThey say I write like Lewis Carroll.
ReplyDeleteGoing to bookmark that website & try it again when I start my writing course.
Thanks for the great site.
(((( Hugs )))) XXXX Kisses XXXX
Cory Doctorow, Charles Dickens or PG Wodehouse - depending on which post I used!!
ReplyDeletexxxCate
Dear God, I write like HP Lovecraft, which I thought sounded such a lovely thing, until Googled him and found he was most famous for "The Best of H. P. Lovecraft: Bloodcurdling Tales of Horror and the Macabre". I DESPISE all things horror!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteLuckily I went back for more with some fiction - happy to report an affinity with Dan Brown this time around!
ReplyDeleteDavid Foster Wallace which is a bit scary if you google him. Even more spooky is that he spent his early childhood in Champaign, Urbana in Illinois USA - as I did!
ReplyDeleteErnest Hemingway! Off to down some rum for lunch now. I need it. Just got another NO from an agent. Don't they know WHO I WRITE like? ;-)
ReplyDeleteMargaret Mitchell!! Would like to try with another entry and see if it comes up with something different. Oh, I just realised the post I pasted talked about Scarlett... is that the only association?
ReplyDeleteJames Joyce. I wish!
ReplyDeleteI love these sort of things.
ReplyDeleteApparently I write like Margaret Mitchell.
Mmmm... Pulitzer prize, book made into one of the most famous films of all time...I'll take that!
I write like PG Wodehouse. Or Stephen King. Or Cory Doctorow, or David Foster Wallace... I kept pasting in different posts and it came out different each time! Looking at some of the writers others here got I think I will try again...!
ReplyDeleteSo, of course I nipped over immediately to see who I write like. And it said ‘Cory Doctorow’, who I have never heard of which is probably fitting.
ReplyDeleteBut I thought, that can’t be right (write?), so I said “I’ll show this piece of analyzing garbage something” and five times I uploaded a different post and, guess what, I really do write like Cory Doctorow. x
