Weekend Rewind #7 (limited edition): Blogging

It's the end of week one in the school holidays and I'm feeling slightly shell-shocked - as, I'm sure, is every other parent in the land. I'm squeezing this post in while Mr9 watches Superman on DVD and Mr6 creates comics in the other room, whistling the Batman theme the whole time.

Lot of super-hero action round these parts at the moment. Lot of super-hero action.

So I've decided to keep it simple this week. The theme for the Weekend Rewind is: Blogging.

Any blog post you've ever written that mentions the word blogging, is about blogging or has overtones of blogging will do.

The rules, such as they are: Link up an old post for some new comment love. Visit other links in the Rewind to share the comment love. And if we're not already friends on Facebook, come and say hello.

Next week, the Weekend Rewind will be receiving a little shake-up, designed to keep it fun, fresh and interesting. Intrigued? Stay tuned.

In the meantime, ready, set... Rewind!

Weekend Rewind #6: Short

Well, what a week it's been. Down here on the south coast of NSW, we've experienced torrential rain, flooding, and that cold, heavy chill that permeates all your clothing. In Canberra, there's been fierce battle and political blood spilt. In Texas, Senator Wendy Davis stood on her feet for hour and hours and hours while the world watched via YouTube.

You might say it's been a long week.

Which is why the theme for this week's Rewind is: Short. A short post. A post about being short or short skirts or short haircuts or animated shorts or short tempers. Whatever works best for you.

I'm going with a short post. As a blogger, I think it's important to realise that you don't have to say everything all the time. Some of the most popular Fibro posts are just a few paragraphs long. Sentences even.

The rules of the Rewind are also relatively short, so that works well. Link up an old post for some new comment love. Visit some of the other links to share the love around. Oh, and like my Facebook page, if we're not already friends, because that's where I offer the first heads-up each week about the Rewind (Limited Edition).

Thanks, as ever, to everyone who linked up last week. I very much enjoyed reading all your posts about growth. The thing I love about the Rewind is the different approach to the theme that everyone takes. It's a great opportunity to visit new blogs and find new friends. Keep 'em coming!

Okay, that's it.

Ready, set... REWIND!

The Weekend Rewind: It's ba-a-a-a-ck (limited edition)

I was reading Maxabella's post the other day about her new World Blog Tour, an innovative new way to visit more blogs.

"She's right," I thought to myself (or may have actually spoken out loud because I'm that kind of girl). "I don't visit enough blogs."

My blog roll kind of disappeared during the Fibro renovation a while ago, I started writing three books at once and... well, reading blogs disappeared off my daily To Do list.

So I'm going to make it easy on myself (and you, hopefully) and bring back the Weekend Rewind for a limited season. I'm even including the circa-2010 image that Maxabella created for me. Isn't it cute?

If you haven't been part of the Rewind before, it's a simple linky thingo with few rules. You link up an old post for some new comment love. You visit a few other blogs to say hello and make them feel loved. We all sing kum-bayah, come back next Friday and do it all again.

But it's so much fun! It's an opportunity to dust off those posts that you felt really didn't get the attention they deserved, and an opportunity to find some new favourite reads.

I wrote this post once about the importance of having your blogging neighbours over. Sometimes I feel that, since those halcyon early days of blogging, we've all neglected that idea a bit.

But I digress...

To keep it interesting, I do like to have a theme (otherwise, seriously, how do you choose a post???). To make it easy, I'm going to make this week's theme JANUARY. So, you can link up any blog post that you wrote in ANY January of ANY year in which you have been blogging.

I have three years' worth of posts to choose from now... Including four Januarys... Which is about 21 years' worth in real terms (blogging years are like dog years as far as I'm concerned).

Okay, that's it. If we're not already besties in some form or other, like me on Twitter or Facebook simply to keep up with the notices of when the Rewind link is up (gives you a better chance to get in early!)

And... REWIND!

(As an aside, I've just realised that I've set the life of the linky for one week. Usually I close off at around 8pm on Sunday night - for two reasons... one is that if you get in any later than that, you generally don't get too many visitors and, two, is that I forget to check it after Monday... So, let's pretend it closes at 8pm on Sunday May 26, okay?)

Join the Weekend Rewind

The Weekend Rewind, world's easiest linky, is on again at And Then There Were Four. Join Multiple Mum, me and scores of other fabulous Rewinders as we make our merry way through the month of March 2011. That's right. Old post.

All you do is link up your favourite post from March 2011 and then visit some of the other Rewind posts. Comments make the Weekend Rewind go round. That's right. Comment love.

My post this week is about the one thing I would change about myself above all others. I know. Such a difficult choice when I have SO many options.

What have you got for us? Link up and Rewind!

Have you met the Weekend Rewind?

I'm joining in the Weekend Rewind this weekend, over with Multiple Mum. If you haven't taken part before, it's the world's easiest linky. All you have to do is link up an old post (this week you need one from February 2011) and share the comment love around.

My post this week is all about how much wood a woodchopper might chop if a woodchopper was to chop wood at the Fibrotown show. You can check out all the other links right here.

Why not join me?

Writing + Weight Loss = Same/Same

I'm guest posting at Diminishing Lucy today. I love her blog. She covers an awful lot of ground, from family to fitness, and does it without apparently breaking a sweat. My post today is all about how writing and weight loss have a lot of similarities... particularly given I'm not doing a lot of either at the moment. Please pop over and say hello...

Also, if you haven't joined up with the Weekend Rewind, it's not too late - and it's SUPER EASY this week. All you have to do is to link up a post from this time last year. How hard can that be???? Hope to see you there!

What did you talk about this week?

Well, here we are at the weekend. Time to relax, unwind and recharge. Also time to look back at the week that was. The Fibro was a hive of activity and conversation this week. Mostly centred around splashbacks and cupboard profiles. But we did manage to fit some other stuff in too. Some are personal, some are professional (as in, for a story). I'll leave it up to you to decide which is which...

Cold Chisel, prawns that had been hidden in a bag in our laundry for five days, freezing said prawns in container, under-bench top sinks, the wall that was and then wasn't, green olives, balsamic vinegar, visitors, moving house, bathroom cabinets, community grants, worm wee, soccer, concentration, Lego mini-figures, birthday parties, Cars 2, scooters, vacuum cleaners, milkshakes, organising one's office, organising (specifically) my office, the decision to have a baby, fitting in 'relations' as a working mother, Mosman, blogging, bloggers, pitching, ideas, the state of the freelance writing market, finishing the damn book, feeding the fish.

What did you talk about?

PS: I'm Rewinding at And Then There Were Four this weekend. Link up an old post for new comment love! Hope to see you there.

I'm Rewinding with Multiple Mum

I'm back from Maxabella Land in time to link up to the Weekend Rewind at And Then There Were Four. I spent some time last night, in front of a fire, in hysterics, with both my sisters - definitely on my Top Ten List of ways to spend an evening. Which brings me neatly to the topic of this week's Rewind - Lists. Any post you have with a list, a number, a top X anything. Go say hello to Multiple Mum and join in!

Rewinding is the most fun you can have on a weekend. Well, Top Five, at least.

Here's my list post: What's on your lifetime To Do list?

Catch you on the Rewind!

The Weekend Rewind... has moved!

The Weekend Rewind, world famous archive linky, has moved to its bright, shiny new home over with Sister C, aka Multiple Mum, at And Then There Were Four.

The drill remains the same : link up an old post for some new comment love. Only the neighbours will be different.

This week the theme is 'your first post'. Here's mine: Leftovers are the new takeaway. I don't mind admitting that I'm not fond of it...

Look forward to seeing you (and yours) there.

Weekend Rewind

Don't you love the way a long weekend makes the whole week shorter. It seems like only yesterday that we were Rewinding, and already it's time to go again. I've decided to make it really easy this week. No theme. Just a post you love. Any post you love. The only criteria is that it must be one that was written sometime before today.

We shall call it the Favourite Things Rewind. And all you must do to contribute is to follow the Fibro, link up an old post for some new comment love, and then - and here's the dealbreaker - comment on as many of the other links as you can manage. Comments make the Weekend Rewind go round.

So that's it. My post this week is all about the Magic of Childhood.

Can't wait to see yours. Ready, set... Rewind!

Weekend Rewind - Easter edition

It's an early Rewind this week, and we'll be staying late. Opening today and staying open until Monday night (Aussie time). A holiday kind of rewind. Dip in and dip out at your leisure. I fully intend to do so.

The drill remains the same. Follow the Fibro if we are not already friends and then drag an old post from your archives for some new comment love. The beauty of the Rewind is that it allows classic posts a chance to shine once more, so if you've written something you love, here's your chance to give it another run. Don't forget to visit as many other linkers as you can to share the warm, friendly, Weekend Rewind love around.

I was contemplating a theme for this week's Rewind and decided on 'New'. New life. New love. New car. New beginning. New Kids on the Block. New Order. You can see that this one will be a mixed tape indeed.

That's it. I'll be back on Monday night/Tuesday with regular programming and will be sure to visit everyone who links up here. To get you started, I'm sharing my Excursion to New Frontiers.

Ready? Set? Rewind!

Weekend Rewind

How quickly the Rewind rolls around. Even during the school holidays - longest weeks of the year. I'm in the middle of my footy tipping, so I'll need to keep it short and sweet this week.

Last week, as you know, we completed our mixed tape of months, with a rousing rendition of some Christmas favourites. This week, a new prompt. And, because it's a subject never far from my mind these days, the prompt is Waiting. So, revisit your archives, give it some thought and drag out a post that fits the Waiting category. Remember, the fit can be tenuous, for this is not a strict sort of linky.

The drill remains the same: follow the Fibro if we are not already BFFs, link up your post and then go visit some other linkers to share the comment love. I can't wait to see what you have for me. Though I confess to having that Foreigner song going round and round in my head.

"I've been waiting, for a girl like you, to come into my life..." Let me know when you've had enough of that one.

Ready, set, Rewind!

Weekend Rewind

If it's Weekend Rewind time, it must be Friday. I love it when the time to write this post comes around because it means the busyness of the week is behind us and the weekend stretches ahead.

This week, the prompt for our mixed tape of fabulous posts is December. Musically, I could wheel out any number of Christmas carols at this point, as it seems to be the only music played in December (and November and October, come to think of it...) - but nobody needs to be humming Rudolph in April. Not even me.

So the drill is this: please follow the Fibro if we are not already friends, link up a post from December 2010 (or 2009 or 2008 or... you get the picture) and then visit a few other links to share the comment love. The Rewind is the world's easiest linky - and we're aiming for the world's friendliest gold star as well. Other contenders for that title include Maxabella's Grateful and Blog Gems at The King And Eye. Feel free to spread yourselves around.

Right. Ready, set, Rewind!

Weekend Rewind

It's halftime at the footy, which seems the perfect time to get the Weekend Rewind underway. I peaked early last week with Guns'N'Roses November Rain, but my time has come this week. I can already hear Axl Rose wailing away in my mind...

In case you're wondering what I'm on about, welcome to the web's easiest linky. All you have to do to participate is to dust off an old post and link it up for some new comment love. Please follow the Fibro if we're not already friends, and be sure to visit a few of the other links to make some new friends. It's definitely worth the effort.

The prompt this week, as hinted at in the opening par, is November, so link up a post from November 2010, or earlier. I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

To get you started, I'm sharing a post about one of my least favourite aspects of motherhood. This was clearly written on a less-than-stellar day.

Ready, set... Rewind!

Weekend Rewind

Despite the fact that the weekend has snuck up on me this week - it still feels like Tuesday, unfortunately - I'm back with the Weekend Rewind. Did you miss me last week? Of course you did.

The drill remains the same, only the links change each week to create a divine mixed tape of bloggy madness. To whit, you follow the Fibro if we are not already BFFs, you link up a vintage post for some new comment love, you visit a few other links to provide said new comment love. Voila!

This week, our Weekend Rewind has hit October. I confess that this, too, surprised me. I was already wailing Guns'N'Roses 'November Rain' in my mind, but I peaked early. Get set for a great version next week. In the meantime, drag out a post from October 2010 or earlier and let's put a spotlight on it. I tried to come up with an October song for you all, but all I could think of was Oktoberfest Oom-Pah-Pah numbers and I don't think anyone needs one of those to deal with in March.

Anyhoo. Ready, set, Rewind!

This week, I'm sharing a post that brings a smile to my face, all about the drama of reading at school. Can't wait to see what you've got for me!

And, if you're feeling all grateful and stuff just to see the Rewind back, don't forget to visit Maxabella's Grateful - one of the happiest linkys on the internet.

Weekend Rewind

I am sitting here with a glass of wine, having survived the annual school disco. All I can say is I'm glad they come but once a year. And even happier that The Builder had a chilled glass of white awaiting our return home, resplendent in our glowsticks and our flashing starfish necklaces.

But enough about my thrilling social life. It's time for the Weekend Rewind. All you have to do to take your place in the moshpit is to follow the Fibro if we're not already friends, link up a classic old post from your well-padded archives, and then visit a few other links to share the comment love. So simple. Just how we like things on Friday night... particularly after enforced viewing of the complex nature of primary school society.

This week's theme for our mixed tape of hot hits is September. And it is a hot month - so many inspiring musical choices to choose from - Green Day 'Wake Me Up When September Ends'... oh, not so positive. Okay, let's look to a standard then. Frank Sinatra was just one of the many who recorded 'September Song'..."It's a long, long time from May to December, but the days grow short when you reach September"... Hmmm. Part of the problem, of course, is that September in the Northern Hemisphere heralds the dark, cold months. Here, of course, it's all 'spring is sprung, the grass is riz..."

I don't mind if you choose perky September or sombre September, just post a link from September 2010 or earlier - if you don't have one, feel free to put up something about spring. Or grass. Whatever.

Okay, that's the spiel done. All that's left now is to Rewind!

(Don't forget to visit my other fave weekend linkys - Maxabella's Grateful, and Blog Gems at The King and Eye (Sunday)).

Weekend Rewind

I am full of Chinese food and beer and pretty much empty of inspiration tonight, so we'll cut to the chase. Welcome to the Weekend Rewind, the web's easiest linky. All you have to do to participate is to follow the Fibro if we're not already friends, drag one of your old posts out into the air (kicking and screaming, if necessary) and link it up for some new comment love.

Got it? Fablious.

Today's prompt is, in keeping with our months of the year trend, August. All I can think of is the seminal Neil Diamond album Hot August Night, but I blame my parents and too many hours in the Kingswood for this. 'Sweet Caroline' anyone? (Bah, Bah, Bah.)

I'm open to better August tunes. But more open to August posts (from 2010 or earlier). If you'd can't do August, give me something cool. Neil Diamond is cool. Apparently.

Okay. Everyone set? Rewind!

Weekend Rewind

My, how quickly the weekend rolls around when there's a Rewind to enjoy! It seems like only yesterday that we were singing about silvery moons in June, and now here we are again. July has proved a problematic month for our mixed tape of Rewind pleasures. There are a few songs about July - Google tells  me that Ocean Colour Scene had one out in 2000 that made number 31 on the UK singles chart. It was called 'July'.

I'm not familiar with it.

Nor am I familiar with Katatonia's 'July' or 'The July 4th Song (The Day Kobayashi Went Down)' by McSAPRR (I get the impression not too many people are familiar with this one).

But, undaunted, the Weekend Rewind goes on. And it's easy - follow the Fibro if we are not already friends, and then link up one of those fabulous posts languishing in your archives. Pop around and comment on a few other links, to share the comment love, and there you have it. The prompt this week is July, so your post will preferably be something from July 2010 or earlier. But don't fret if you don't have one - just link up something that you love.

That's it! Let the Rewind begin! This week, I'm offering up the origins of the Concert Face. Oh, one thing, I'll be offline for much of the weekend doing, you know, real life stuff, but never fear - I will visit each and every link upon my return. Looking forward to it.

And don't forget those other Fibro-famous linkys, Maxabella's Grateful and Blog Gems at The King and Eye (Sunday/Monday Aussie time). I'll be there - you should be too!

Weekend Rewind

When I was in about year 9, I was in the school musical, which was nothing like High School Musical, even though it was one...a high-school musical, that is. For our musical, we dressed up in Ye Olde Time clothes and sang Ye Olde Time songs. Think Bicycle Built for Two. Yep, that Olde Time. Not a cute cheerleading outfit or spunky jock to be seen.

Sigh.

So, why am I sharing my teen humiliation with you? Because it's (Olde) Time for Weekend Rewind. And one of those Ye Olde Time songs we sang was all about the light of the silvery moon (not the sun but the moon), wanting to croon (to my honey I'll croon love's tune).... It went on... Honeymoon (honeymoon, honeymoon), keep a smiling in June (not May but June)... etc.

Which is a long-winded way of saying that it's time for Weekend Rewind - that oh-so-fabulous linky where you dust off an old post for some new comment love - and the prompt for this week is June.

Thanks for sticking with me.

All you need to do is to link up a post from June 2010 (or earlier). But because it's February and I'm feeling hot and frizzy, I'll also take a wintery type post. Or a summer post about swimming, water, breezes...Anything cool. Oh, and don't forget the comment bit - please try to visit a few other links to show you care.

To get you started, I'm sharing a post from June 24, 2010, the day that Australia gained its first female Prime Minister under rather breathtaking circumstances. But try explaining that to a six-year-old boy. It was a day that I was very grateful that I knew the basics of chess.

Okay, what have you got for me? Let the Rewind begin [insert fanfare]!

PS: Also, don't forget to join me as I join my other favourite weekend linkys - Maxabella's Grateful and Blog Gems at The King and Eye (Sunday/Monday Aus time). They're both very friendly!

Weekend Rewind

This weekend can't get here soon enough for me. Oh wait, it's here. [Insert sigh of relief.] Which means it's time for the Weekend Rewind. [Insert wild cheering in the streets.]

In keeping with our current month-by-month playbook, today we'll be featuring May. I confess to be struggling to find a noteworthy song about May. Which is disappointing, it being the month of my birth and all. Apparently Arcade Fire has one called 'Month of May', but I am not young enough or cool enough to be able to hum that one.

So I'll skip right to the Rewind bit. The drill is this: you dust off an old post (preferably from May last year or earlier, or featuring something about May, but you know I'll take anything so don't fret), you link it up below, you browse through the other links and leave a little comment love, just to be friendly. So easy. So much fun. So...

My offering for this week is all about that May institution: Mothers' Day. Specifically how Mothers' Day, like motherhood, rarely goes to plan.

Okay, that's it. Let the Rewind begin! And don't forget to visit those other wonderful one-stop weekend linky shops: Maxabella's Grateful Saturday and Blog Gems at The King And Eye (Sunday).
